CHANDIGARH: The Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, is committed to the welfare and safety of the backward sections of society. In line with this commitment, Minister for Social Justice, Empowerment, and Minorities Dr. Baljit Kaur convened a high-level meeting to discuss the implementation of the Atrocity Act, 1989, and other significant initiatives aimed at uplifting marginalized communities. The meeting was attended by the Additional Inspector General (AIG) of the Police Department and other senior officials.

CHANDIGARH: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has disqualified six candidates, contested the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections, through orders. Divulging the details, Punjab's Chief Electoral Officer Sibin C stated that these candidates have not submitted their election expenses as per section 78 of Representation of the People Act, 1951 to the commission within the specified timeframe , thus rendering them ineligible to contest elections for the next 3 years under Section 10 A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951.
