AMRITSAR: Giani Raghbir Singh Jathedar Akal Takht highest seat of Sikh religion has appealed to Bhai Amritpal Singh and his companions and their families detained in the Dibrugarh Jail of Assam that since there is no concept of hunger strike in Sikhism, they should give up their hunger strike.
He said that every Sikh has the right to struggle against oppression, but since there is no concept of hunger strike in Sikhism, Bhai Amritpal Singh, his companions and family should not go on hunger strike.
Along with this, they have also warned the government that if there is any loss to Bhai Amritpal Singh and his companions who are on hunger strike, then the government will be responsible for it. The youth should be transferred to Punjab jail.
In a statement issued here today by Sri Akal Takht Sahib Secretariat, Giani Raghbir Singh said that Bhai Amritpal Singh and his colleagues are on a hunger strike in Dibrugarh Jail against the atrocities being committed in the jail, whose families are also on hunger strike in Heritage street in Amritsar.
He said that similarly, information has been received that some Sikh youths are also on hunger strike in Amritsar Jail, out of which the condition of one Sikh youth is critical.
He said that the entire nation is with Bhai Amritpal Singh and his and his colleagues' lives are a national trust.
He said that it is right that the behavior of the governments towards the Sikhs is becoming increasingly unjust and the Sikhs need to show unity against it. He said that the government should also understand that the Sikhs cannot be suppressed with coercion. If there is any harm to Bhai Amritpal Singh and any of his colleagues who are on hunger strike against the injustice being done to them, it will not be good for law and order. He said that the government should immediately agree to the main demand of Bhai Amritpal Singh and his companions and transfer them to Punjab jail and simplify the entire Sikh issues and eliminate the feeling of alienation and resentment among the Sikhs.
