CHANDIGARH: The Punjab's Leader of the Opposition (LoP), Partap Singh Bajwa on Friday lambasted the Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann for conducting Rangla Punjab festival in Amritsar at the time when the entire Punjab grieving the brutal murder of Punjab's young son, Shubhkaran Singh,

"Is this the kind of Rangla Punjab he always wanted to make? The Haryana Police has been hunting our farmers since February 13. Several dozen farmers have been injured by tear gas and rubber bullets fired by the Haryana Police. However, our defunct CM is busy organizing Gidha and Bhangra in Amritsar. It demonstrates that he is not a serious politician but still a comedian", Bajwa added.

Senior Congress Leader Bajwa said that after the death of Shubhkaran Singh, the Punjab CM vowed to give exemplary punishment to the responsible officials. However, the Punjab Police, which directly falls under the CM cum Home Minister Bhagwant Mann,  had not visited the site of the death even after 30 hours.

"How can an exemplary punishment be ensured without initiating the investigation and collecting evidence from the spot of crime? Only CM can explain", Bajwa added.

The opposition leader said that the announcement of compensation for the family and offering a job to the sister of Shubhkaran Singh would not be enough. The responsibility has to be fixed and culprits must be tried in the court of law.

"Had the Punjab CM been sincere towards the Punjab, he would have postponed the Rangla Punjab festival observing the tragic incidents that happened to the farmers at Shambhu and Khanauri borders", Bajwa added.
